Why doesn't my server boot after a Yast online update?

If SuSE has been chosen as the operating system following points have to be taken into account when updating the system:

1. Kernel <> hardware:
The Kernel of the operating system has been optimally calibrated with the hardware. Normally EUserv uses more up to date Kernels than the standard distribution, even more up to date than available in the online update.

2. Raid disk mirroring:
Disk mirroring generally takes place across the whole disk capacity, meaning that also the boot partition is being mirrored. In case the mirroring isn't supported anymore after an online update by another Kernel it could be that the server doesn't boot correctly anymore.

Please proceed cautiously when updating and inform yourself about the support on the existing system / hardware before installing the respective program package.
